What you should know before traveling to Transylvania
First and foremost, you should come prepared for rather cold weather. At the end of October, temperatures in Transylvania range between 5 and 15°C (41–59°F). You should bring a warm jacket and long pants (the weather most likely won’t be warm enough for shorts), as well as comfortable shoes, especially if you are going on a longer trip with lots of attractions to visit. Of course, don’t forget your Halloween costume which is mandatory attire during our Halloween parties.
The local currency is the Romanian Leu (RON), and while most places accept credit cards, carrying some cash is useful especially in rural areas.
Roads are generally in good condition, although you may encounter sections under repair or construction. Traffic can be slower both inside and outside cities depending on the time of day – luckily our highway system is becoming more advanced every day, with new portions scheduled to open soon.
Romania is a relatively safe country. You can walk on our streets without worrying that you’ll get mugged. We have the occasional beggars and pickpockets operating in crowded areas, but, as long as you’re vigillent, you should be safe.
