On Halloween, we also organize a 3-Days Short Break – in fact two different versions. One of them departs from Cluj-Napoca while the other one begins in our capital, Bucharest. Costs for the best Trips to Transylvania
When booking a tour, you need to consider several aspects. First of all, choose the length of your tour based on how much time you have available and on what you intend to do in Transylvania. However, if you’re only interest in the best Halloween Parties in Transylvania, you can either book a 1-Day City Break or a 2-Days Short Break. Or, even better, choose a 3-Days Halloween Tour which includes both our party in Sighisoara Citadel and the one taking place at Bran Castle.

Price for food in Romania
We usually include a breakfast and a dinner on every day of your trips to Transylvania. Sometimes, there are small windows in our schedule during which travelers can enjoy lunch on their own account. For this reason – or if you want to eat something that is not included in the menu we offer – you should know how much food costs in Romania. Budget Your Trip – a website which offers price estimates for everything in a country you are about to visit – reveals that, on average, travelers spend about 104 lei / day on food. This refers to three meals / day, which is not our case, since breakfasts and dinners are included in the tour price.
While meal prices in Romania can vary, the average cost of food in Romania is lei104 per day. Based on the spending habits of previous travelers, when dining out an average meal in Romania should cost around lei41 per person. Breakfast prices are usually a little cheaper than lunch or dinner. The price of food in sit-down restaurants in Romania is often higher than fast food prices or street food prices.

Transport Costs in Romania
If you don’t intend to wander off on your own, this section might not be of too much interest. We provide transfers between the included attractions by car, minibus or coach depending on the number of travelers. You might be interested in transportation costs in Romania if you intend to extend your stay and travel more on your own.
You should know that transport costs can differ based on whether you choose a bus or a taxi. Buses are cheaper, but they are also very crowded and you risk running into pickpockets. Taxis, on the other hand, are more expensive, but they offer more intimacy. However, you may encounter drivers who will try to scam you by either circling you around or negotiating the price ahead of the ride.
Is it safe to visit Romania?
Romania is, generally, a safe country. The Global Terrorist Database ranks us on 138/163 countries. This signifies that no terrorist attacks have occured here. Furthermore, we are on position 22/163 on the Global Peace Index, which analyses militarization, society and security and domestic and interest conflict.
You don’t need to worry about being mugged in the street, as crime rate is low in Romania – it ranks below the European average. One problem we are facing is with the high level of corruption. You might encounter situations in which authorities propose a ‘mutually beneficial’ solution which seems outside the law. Do not accept such arrangements, as this will only cause you problems on the long run.
Need to Know before going on our Trips to Transylvania
- Confirm your passport is valid for 6 months from when you think your trip will end. Don’t get stranded.
- Get comprehensive travel insurance to cover you and your gear. Get insurance that’s right for you and covers your activities in the places you’ll go. Remember, regardless of how healthy and fit you are, if you can’t afford travel insurance, you can’t afford to travel.
- Consider your physical and mental health. Get advice from your doctor if you’re unsure.
- See your doctor or travel clinic 8 weeks before you go for a basic health check
- Check if your medication is legal and available in the places you’re going. Take enough of your prescribed medicines to last the whole trip. Carry copies of your prescription and a letter from your doctor.
- Tell your bank you’re travelling and check if your cards will work. Have several payment options.
Driving in Romania
If you intend to visit a series of attractions on your own in Romania, the best option you have is to rent a car. When driving inside cities, pay extra attention to avoid an unwanted traffic incident. Some drivers don’t respect the law and may engage in risky overtakes (possibly in places where this maneuver is not allowed), make U-turns over a continuous line or cross red lights.
Furthermore, a major problem you will face inside cities is the limited number of parking spots. Finding a free spot can be quite a challenge. We recommend planning ahead – find the parking lot that is located closer to your destination and leave the car there. This helps you avoid wasting a lot of time searching for a parking spot.
If you choose public transportation or taxis, we have some advice for you:
- buses or the subway are usually very crowded and pickpockets may lurk here; in order to prevent them from stealing your belongings, always keep your bag or purse within eyesight
- taxis are more expensive than buses; they offer a different level of comfort though, but keep an eye out for shady drivers – their tactics include circling you around in order to increase the meter or negotiating the price before the ride (you usually end up being overcharged this way)
- ridesharing services like Uber or Taxify are safer than taxis; this way you know the cost of your ride in advance and you pay through the app
Pickpocketing
Pickpocketing is a common issue. Thieves are usually present in crowded places, which is why you should always keep your belongings within eyesight. One of the most common tactics they use is cutting your bag open and disappearing with your valuables before you can realize what happened. We recommend keeping your valuables in the hotel safe when possible and only carrying essential things with you.
If you encounter individuals who offer to exchange money on the street, you should avoid them as their intentions are to scam you. The best place to exchange your money is an exchange house. They usually offer better rates than banks.
In Romania, you can pay almost everywhere with a credit card. If you have a card which supports payments in our currency, we recommend not carrying a large amount of cash with you.
Laws
Romania laws require you to always carry photo ID. You should always have your ID Card or Passport on you. We recommend carrying copies around rather than originals.
Airports, military sites and other secure locations do not allow people to take photos on their premises.
You should also know that penalties for drug offences in our country are quite drastic. Depending on the seriousness of the crime, you can face up to 20 years in jail.
Travel Insurance
We do our best to make sure your trips to Transylvania go as planned and you have a great time in our country. Unfortunately, we can’t predict everything and, sometimes, unexpected and unwanted things can happen. Which is why we strongly recommend getting yourself good travel insurance before leaving your country.
Travel insurance can save you from suffering financially due to an unexpected event. It can also help you if you are in need of healthcare services. Outside your country, medical services can get quite expensive and you most likely won’t receive free care or even subsidized costs. However, a good travel insurance helps because, in this case, the insurer will cover the expenses.
